Register a domain in Namecheap

Why register your own domain?

Your domain is the web address customers type to find your business, such as carwashexample.co.uk. It looks more professional than a generic link, is easier to share on Google, social media, business cards, and invoices, and it stays yours as your business grows.

Before you start

• Choose the domain name you want customers to type.
• This guide uses carwashexample.co.uk as an example. Use your own business domain instead.
• Use an email address where Namecheap can send account and purchase emails.
• You only need the domain name. You can skip hosting, website builder, and business email add-ons.

Steps

Open Namecheap and search

Open the Namecheap domain search page, type your preferred domain into the search box, and click Search. A short business name is usually easier for customers to remember and type.

Choose the exact domain

If the domain is available, click Add to cart on that exact domain. Namecheap may also show similar names such as .com, .net, or .org options. Only choose those if you specifically want them.

Skip suggested extras

Namecheap may suggest hosting, WordPress hosting, SSL, email, logos, or other extras. For this setup, keep it simple and continue with the domain only.

Review your cart

Keep the registration term simple, such as one year, unless you already know you want a longer term. If domain privacy is included, leave it enabled because it helps keep personal contact details away from public WHOIS lookup results.

Sign in or create an account

If Namecheap asks you to log in, sign in with your Namecheap account. If this is your first Namecheap purchase, choose Sign up and create an account using an email address where Namecheap can send account and purchase emails.

Open Domain List

After checkout, open Domain List in your Namecheap account. This is where the new domain appears and where you can manage it later.
